Claire is an artist currently working mostly in clay. In 2013 she left her career in graphic design to pursue a more creative vocation. The graphic influence has led her to experiment with image and print on clay prefering the natural clay colours of white, black and terracotta. She often uses cloth, dung and other inclusions to achieve various textures and shapes. Ancient and tribal art and ornament inspire and influence the narrative and creation of her art and sculptural vessels. The natural environment and its survival are a passion. She endevours to communicate the importance of curiosity and inspiration to observe and consider the life around us and our place in time. Claire won the Premier Award (Gauteng Regional Ceramics Exhibition) in 2013 for her work with dung in her ceramic vessels. She has exhibited every year since 2013 in the Ceramics SA Regional and National Exhibitions/Biennials. In 2017 recieved a Highly Commended Award for her print work on her pieces. She has also participated in various group art and ceramic exhibitions including themed and annual exhibitions at Twilsharp Studios where her current studio space is. The role of making is a sequence of actions that set in motion a curiosity to go beyond what is already known (or familiar?), in a non-verbal language that extends our abilities to communicate with each other across cultures, time and space.
